Yesterday I got my freshly painted sliding door mounted - complete with my newly restored westfalia window. Before I had an awful looking door with two peepholes in it.
Really think it suits the car, and Jens (the mad painter) did a great job on the door - thanks!

Visit from the friday gang.

Friday evening we had a visit from the local friday gang. About 30 people turned up. These guys meet together on fridays to check out each others cars and projects. During the summer they meet at the local parking lot by the highway in Ikast to some serious tire-kicking.
The event is open for everybody with interest in vintage cars - no rules here.
Nice for a change to talk to someone outside the vw community - thank you for a great evening.

Both Jens and I have in the past week bought a 120km trip speedo.
These are not very common and I have been looking for one for years, and suddenly they just seemed to pop up everywhere.

Taking a 43 kübelwagen detour

A couple of years ago I had the ride of my life in a 43 kübelwagen.
A well known danish vw vintage entusiast (with whom I share first name with) took me and a friend with him showing what a kübel could do in the open terrain.
It was so much fun and none of the vehicles were spared!
The day after we took his took his type 128 for a swim :-)

Today Jens and I started up our two 54 oval (the summer is just around the corner)
Mine had got some new totalseal piston rings, and Jens had got a homemade Abarth exhaust.
We compared the sound of the two exhausts as they werent made out of the same kind of stock exhaust, which do you think sounds better?

Another familiar face from our roadtrip the other day is Gustav.
Gustav loves most of the aircooled machineri ever made (nur Volkswagens :-) )
and he have owned several cars all from type 1 to type 4 and everything in between.
His current project is this 51 split, I hope to see the car on the road for 2009 then we both can put on our blue hats and take a cruise together.

Yesterday Jens and I was on a roadtrip visiting and collecting parts from several vw people in the area, one of them was Guller. He is currently in the middle of restoring this 65 split bus, and as you can see on the pictures he is saving money on his clothing budget to buy sheetmetal for his bus :-)

I have these four Sprints, and I am not sure if I want to change them for my whitawall crossplies look. On the other hand the crossplies just suit the car perfect! Then I thought about using them for my waterhose in the garage, but the hose is to long to fit the 4,5" and to short for the 5,5" :-)

I can´t expect you guys to keep believe in all the things that I see to and from work. But the other day something caught my eye standing a little higher than the road, I was not sure that had seen right, so today in the day light I went of to check out if I was right in my observasion, and I was!!! There alog the road stood a burned out and rusted early 911/912 (I am not sure how to tell the difrents, besides the engine) It is a pitty to see such a nice car end its life like that, don´t you think?

Here it is compared to a original cabrio lid.

Here it just got some black paint with a rattle can just to see how it looks.

Flenne wanted to get some more air into the 193 horses he is hiding under his decklid. We talked about several options and finally came up with this, to graft in the louvres from a newer decklid (they are almost identical to the original ones on a cabriolet) So that is what I did, the funny thing is that the decklid I took them louvres from is actually from Flenne´s first car.

Bjarke has long been wishing for a new aicooled car, since he sold the black devil to Jens his life has just not been the same.
So when he called to ask if would go with him him check out a 59 in Aarhus I was on!
The car is as mentioned a 1959 type 1 deluxe first registered 23/12 1959 I guess it must have been someones christmas present back then :-)
The car is pretty solid and there are only a few things that needs to get fixed before Bjarke and his famely are ready for the spring.

On the way home it started snowing, and you know the roads a slippery when you are broadsiding in 3gear with only 34hp under you right foot ;-)

A couple of months ago Jens bought this matching set of Bosch acccessory lights for the 54 one foglight and one highbeam. So finally yesterday we recieved the much needed brackets so they could go on the car.
Nothing beats a 6volt car, even modern cars with xenon etc dont have this much light :-)

Flenne cought this crazy guy in the act! While he was working on two diffrent vintage speed 36hp engines. The Express engine in the stand is just recieving the final adjustments before it getting torn down for a full rebuild. And the Judson engnine on the floor have just got a set of total seal rings, and is now ready to burn those whitewall crossplies once again ;-)

Today Jens and went to the Angora boys to visit their famous Christmas meet, and deliver a ragtop clip for Nicolajs 56 oval, watch out for serious looker next year!

Nürburgring Nordschleife, the ultimate ride

Nürburgring Nordschleife is deffently the coolest race circuit in Europe, and it’s open to the general public.

Nordschleife Built: 1925 – 1927
Opened: 18/19 June 1927
Costs: approx. 15 Million Reichsmark,
employing up to 3000 unemployed over a period of two years
Length: 20.8 km
Upward slope: max. 17%
Downward slope: max. 11%
Highest point: 620 m at the starting and finishing line
Lowest point: 320 m at Breidscheid
Altitude difference: approx. 300 m
Number of bends: 33 left bends, 40 right bends

Me and my brother have been at Nürburgring alot of times, driving around the circuit in my brothers cars (Porsche 911SC, Golf and a high performance Mini). But there is no way you can learn that big race circuit well, by runing only 5 or 10 laps (100-200km!) over the weekend. So if you want a great driving experience, buy a ticket for a seat onboard one of the BMW M5 Ring Taxis with a professional race driver.

I once booked a seat in one of the BMW M5 Ring Taxis. We where tree guys in the car and a girl behind the wheel with alot of driving skills, I don’t remember her name but it was not the famous race driver Sabine Schmitz. The antispin was turned off and the M power button was activated to give an extra 100hp, going from 400hp to 500hp :-) She really knew the track and the car, She could easily make a high speed four wheel drift while chatting whit the passengers :-) It was very fun and well worth the money, I would deffently do it again some time. If you want to book a seat in the Ring Taxi, you should do it months before you meet up. It can be difficult to get a seat, especially weekends with big events.

My best driving experience ever was back in 2001 at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. My brother and I went down to the “pit area” around the restaurant “Grüne Hölle” to look at cars (Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini every sports car you could imagine). My brother is in to Porsches so we talked to some of the Porsche guys. That’s how we meet a very nice guy called Heinz who lived not far away from Nürburgring. Heinz spend alot of money and spare time racing his street car at the ring in the weekends. The car was a nearly stock Porsche 964 (911) RS leightweight, the only thing that was modifyed was the 3.6 liter engine that now gave around 300hp. Heinz said we could get a ride with him for a few euros if we wanted. We didn’t think twice and said yes. He had all the right safty harness and a helmet so it should be quite safe to ride with him. Heinz knew the circuit very well, he had done around 800-1000 laps at that time (16000-21000km!!)

The 964 RS leightweight is a very nice car. The body shell is stronger and lighter, with aluminium front lid, seam welding, lighter doors and 3mm versus 4.7mm side windows, lightweight rear bumper, underbody sealant deleted, an in built battery cut off switch, special ultra light Magnesium!! 17" Cup wheels, 40mm lower suspension and much uprated dampers and springs. Turbo front brakes brakes with re-tuned ABS.
Inside you got lovely lightweight carbon fibre 'Recaro' race seats, 4 point safety harness, no air con, no heated window, no electric windows or central locking..
Trim is sparse, very basic door cards, a little strap rather than a handle to pull the door shut, little soundproofing, the rear seats are removed -even the interior light is deleted in effort to save weight. The roll cage is optional from the factory.

I got in to the seat, and tightened the harness. Heinz said it was too loose so he pulled the straps even harder. I thought to my self how tight do they need to be? I almost felt claustofobic. But when we got out on the track, I could see it was necessary to be straped down that hard. I have never imagined how much G-force this car could pull, when going up hill, down hill, cornering and braking. Even when I was strapped down hard and holding on to the roll cage, I was moving around in the seat. Heinz didn’t spare the material, he realy drove the car hard. I was surprised how fast this car could take the corners. I got it on tape, so here is a video of the ride with Heinz. Too bad you can’t feel the speed and G-forces on the video. You can’t se the speedo very well on the You-Tube version, so I have writen som of the speeds in the right lower corner.

Year 1993. Flenne and his first bug, a bone stock 1300 from 1970.

We had alot of fun driving around in this car :-)

Sadly, the car didn't survive. The stock suspension didn't suport Flennes fast forward driving style :-(

Flennes second car, a real head turner. It was a 1969 roof chopped bug with suicide doors and a shaved dashboard, no intruments! The bug was powered by a stock 1500 engine.

Sadly, the car didn't survive. The next owner wrecked it after a few months.

This is my first Bug, a 1965 bug. I used it as a daily driver for 14 months and drove nearly 40000km, it was very reliable. I still own it, but it's taken apart and stored for a future project.

I was just going through some old pictures when I found these.
They from 2005 I had been at the great Hessich Oldendorg Show, and afterwards I followed with a group of great Brits to Wolfburg to see the factory, They even let us get cars into the factory grounds, something that had never been done before.
I tell you the old lady was almost flying when she was at her hometown :-)

I found this Porche Boxter Cayman cab sitting in my garage the other day, it is really a nice winter car :-)

We have started a new study group were are talking about the the really important things in life. The first meeting were at "Magic Mads" place, look at the picture of the table and you can just how serious we are.
Later that evening we were to Back in Black koncert, it is a ACDC copy band, Mads were drinking strawberry drinks and looking funny.

Long time club hangaround Claus Michaelsen just parked his old hippie monster at our club.

Claus has been in to vw´s since back in the days and has owned many aircooled vw´s - most of them just as wierd as this one. As you can see Claus is not into shiny and clean cars and he´s using his cars for everyday transport.

Due to an unfortunate encounter with a truck the car is now getting a new front end.

Yesterday Jens and I went out to check this abandoned 56 out in a field near us.

Apparently the owner gave up in the midle of the resto, and put out on his father in law field.

Here it has been for several years and a local kindergarden has used it as a toy, there not many parts worth saving on this one!

in a meet held by the danish vintage vw club called (vw veteranklub Danmark.

We had a nice day there and we even had a couple of great deals.

We were the first cars that arrived at the scene of crime :-)

This past week end the Oildrippers once again arranged a fantastic meeting!
This time it was from friday to sunday (normally only saturday-sunday)

That extra day paid off, just look at the pictures from the bar friday night :-)

Last weeks heavy rain caused flodding in the club.
Ulrik is trying to escape the water masses by sailing away on an old oil barrel....

We had some ignition problems on the way home, but lucky for us we met

one of the other club members Bjarke, he was at work, there were almost enough tools in that truck to rebuild the entire engine :-)

Jens (the owner of the 60 ragtop project) have been on the hunt for a early oval for some time,

he has searched the web so hard that I dont think there arn´t many aircooled sites he haven´t seen the last couple of months, the worst thing was that he dragged me into the hunt, so when I heard of a 54 model for sale at a reasonaple price yesterday I knew we had to act fast!

We drove straight after work to see what the car was all about.

Here is some pictures from trip home.

It is a 54 model with correct hoods, fenders etc, and has only had some small rust repairs in the past, it even has old danish lincesplates.

In the trunk there were a box with the org heart taillights!

In June I was at the famous Bad Camberg meeting, the day after returning to my home I took my trusty daily driver to the supermarked, on the way back still tired from the 850km in the oval I could not believe my eys! Was that really Samba I met just on my own doorstep?

Yes it was, I snapped this picture with my cellphone.

If anybody knows anything about it please let me know.

The body was grinded and sandblasted down to bare metal

so he knew what he had.

The last couple of weeks Jens have been busy with the ragtop.

Kalø meeting

Every tueday evening in the summer time all kinds of classic cars and motorcycles meets at place called Kalø.

Tonight the Winther brothers and I took our cars and cruised the 100km

each way to be a part of it.

Nice somtimes to something diffrent than vw´s although I do love them!

Yesterday I visited 2 hardcore vw friends, the had just picked this 56 oval up in sweden.
I just could not resist the opportuniti to park my 54 next to it, and shoot a couple of pictures.
Seeing the pictures it reminds you to wash and polish your car regurlarly :-)
